Statement of Faith
God
I believe there is one Holy God (from the Bible), who created all things in the universe: the heavens, the earth, and man (Genesis 1). He exists as three distinct “persons” (The Holy Trinity): God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 8:5-6), but yet, operates as one Godhead (which existed before all creation outside of time and space).
God is perfectly Holy in all that He is (Psalm 99:9), in all His ways, and sovereign over all things (Acts 4:24). God is not in need of anything (Acts 17:25), but created us in His image and desires relationship with us. Even though man broke that relationship with Him with original sin (Genesis 3:6), He is compassionate towards us, and longs for us to reconcile to Him (2 Corinthians 5:18–20).
Jesus Christ
I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God (John 3:16, Matthew 3:17), who walked this earth fully as God but also fully man (John 10:30, John 1:14). Because of human rebellion that separated us from God and the initial creational order of the universe (original sin through Adam and Eve), Jesus Christ came to live on earth to give humans the way to become reconciled to God again (John 14:6). Born from the Virgin Mary, conceived by the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:18-25), Jesus lived a sinless life, faultless in all his ways (2 Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 4:15). He did this not only to be an example of how to live perfectly (which is impossible for us) and teach us His ways, but to become the perfect atoning sacrifice for our sins by His bloodshed (1 John 4:10), which gave us the ability to become reconciled to God through faith in Him (2 Corinthians 5:18–19, Romans 5:10).
I believe Jesus died on a cross for our sins (1 Peter 2:24), was buried (Matthew 27:57-66), and rose back to life in the resurrection 3 days later, defeating the curse of death forever (Matthew 28:1-10). By putting true faith in Him, we receive new spiritual life and purpose (Galatians 2:20), and new hearts that have been turned from “stone to flesh” (Ezekiel 36:26). Through this process and receiving of the Holy Spirit, we begin to see things in the world the way God sees them. We are washed clean of our sins (1 John 1:7), become adopted into God’s family (John 1:12), and are given eternal life (Romans 6:23).
After His ascension to heaven 40 days after his resurrection (Acts 1:1-3), Jesus still reigns on His throne in heaven today at the right hand of God, until the forthcoming day of His return to Earth to establish His Messianic Kingdom (Ephesians 1:20-21, Revelation 19:11-16).
The Holy Spirit
I believe the Holy Spirit is the third component to the Trinity Godhead, also known as “the Helper” (but also God) (John 14:26). Though the Spirit of God is talked about a few times in the Old Testament and is the Spirit that authored the Bible through the use of humans (2 Peter 1:21, 2 Timothy 3:16-17), the Holy Spirit’s (arguably) most popular recorded accounts occur with the conception of Jesus (born of the Virgin Mary) (Matthew 1:18-25), during the baptism of Jesus (Matthew 3:16), and on the Day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples of Jesus as a gift from God (Acts 2:1-4).
As of that day and into the present, anyone who puts their faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior receives the Holy Spirit and is adopted and permanently sealed into salvation with Christ (Acts 2:38). The Holy Spirit comes to dwell within believers the moment salvation is received, and is the Spirit that helps believers during the rest of their earthly life by guiding, comforting, teaching, witnessing, interceding, convicting, sanctifying and revealing the ways of God to them.
The Bible
I believe The Holy Bible is God’s Word. Though it was written down by men, it was divinely inspired by God, through the use of the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:20-21).
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
The Protestant compilation of 66 books comprising of the Old Testament (39 books) and New Testament (27 books) was penned by more than 40 individuals across 3 continents (overviewbible.com) over a period of more than 1,600 years (estimated), and yet all divinely comes together with inerrancy, authority, and truth (John 17:17) to reveal who God is to us. Despite the longevity of time, diversity of authors, and geographical span during the authorship period, all the canonical books of the Bible come together to create a cohesive story that is God’s Word.
In essence, it is the one way for us to get to know who God is, where we came from, how things came to be in our current world, who Jesus is, how we can reconcile ourselves back to God, and where everything is heading in the future.
I also believe that the Bible “reads differently” to those who have the Holy Spirit dwelling within vs. unbelievers (1 Corinthians 2:11-14). I personally experienced this when I began reading the Bible somewhere between 2019 and 2021 (just to expand my spiritual studies at the time), but didn’t believe what I was reading in Genesis, so I initially stopped after that first book. But when I came to saving faith in 2022 and started reading it again, my soul knew it was reading truth.
Original Creation
I believe God created all that is good that is found in the universe, and He created humans in His image, male and female, distinct from the rest of creation (Genesis 1). Everything was originally created in perfect harmony. However, this harmony was upended when original sin entered the world through the free will choice of Adam and Eve to eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, being deceived by Satan (Genesis 3:6).
Ever since that day, separation from God occurred and a new order to the universe came to fruition, which included dynamics for death and decay (Romans 5:12). Our world has been operating in a “fallen” state, which is in opposition to God’s original design.
Sin
I believe because of original sin from Adam in Eve, humans are born into this world with a “sin nature” because of the curse of sin and death (Romans 5:12, Psalm 51:5). Sin is anything that God considers a transgression against Him and His holy ways. The wages of sin is death, and therefore, any sin committed is grounds for death and eternal separation from God (Romans 6:23). Since we cannot live a perfect sinless life due to our sin nature, we need the way (Jesus) to be made available to us to find reconciliation back to God (Romans 5:10, 2 Corinthians 5:18-19).
Salvation
I believe that with the right heart posture (Romans 10:9), the moment we put our faith in Jesus Christ we become “born again” (John 3:3) and receive salvation as a free gift, paid for by Jesus’ death on the cross for our sins (Romans 5:15-18). This gift that we cannot earn is that of eternal life with God (Romans 6:23), in which we will receive access to heaven after physical death on earth during our current time period (John 14:2-3), and eventually the new heavens and new earth when all things are renewed (Revelation 21:1-5). It is by that by grace through faith in Christ that we are saved (Ephesians 2:8-9), and true salvation is offered by no one else other than Jesus (John 14:6, Acts 4:12). Believers become justified of their sins by confessing to God with repentance, which in turn brings them into right standing with God (1 John 1:9).
Sanctification
I believe sanctification to be the on-going process in which believers walk out the rest of their life as “born-again” believers becoming more and more conformed to the image of Jesus and holiness (John 17:17, Romans 8:29). Despite receiving “new hearts” and the Holy Spirit (Ezekiel 36:26-27), we’re still living this life in the imperfect bodies we inherited at birth, and therefore, are still able to sin (Romans 8:23, 1 John 1:8), but the Spirit of God also gives us the ability not to sin (1 John 3:5-6).
This tug of war within is very noticeable, but part of the process of growing in Christ. This spiritual progression continues up to the point of physical death, in which at that point, believers become fully sanctified as their souls ascend to heaven to be in the presence of God (Philippians 3:20-21).
Creational Redemption
I believe that all things will be redeemed through the power of God at the end of our current age: our bodies, minds, food chains, plants, animals, galaxies, etc…all things will be made new (Revelation 21:5). Because sin and death entered the world after original sin (Genesis 3:6), it not only affected humans and animals, but everything in creation (Romans 8:18-22). Though much beauty can be found in the world and universe around us, it is clear that it is also not as it was meant to be. There will be no disease or death, our bodies will be perfected, and the ability for sin and death to ever wreak havoc again will be nullified (Revelation 21:4).
Those who put their faith in Christ now will be able to eventually experience this new life for eternity (John 10:28), with God dwelling with us (Revelation 21:3).
